Description
Remote-Weather Interceptor: Tu-128M Fiddler Overview The remote-weather interceptor in Figure 128, developed by the former Soviet Tupolev Design Bureau, is nicknamed “Cellist” by NATO and is currently the largest air combat fighter in the world. This interceptor is designed for a specific tactic. After locating a B-52, four AA-4 missiles are launched from 50 km away, and then it immediately flees without engaging in further combat. The weapons include four R-4 (AA-5) air-to-air missiles, typically two R-4R radar-guided missiles and two R-4T infrared-guided missiles. The design features two vertical seats and swept-back wings. The main undercarriage is located within a pod under the main wing. Its large body can carry enough fuel without the need for an external tank. Weapons are totally fixed on pylons under the wing.
