Heavy Cruiser HMS Exeter The Heavy Cruiser Exeter is a significant vessel from the British Royal Navy during World War II, belonging to the York class of heavy cruisers. It was the second ship named “Exeter,” commemorating the first of four warships with this distinguished name. The Exeter was notably damaged in the 1939 Battle of the River Plate against the German Navy’s Admiral Graf Spee battleship. Following extensive modifications, the ship was redeployed to the east of India. Tragically, in 1942, during the Battle of Surabaya, it was sunk by the Japanese navy.
